The idea of Independent Fiction on the Sodor Island Forum stemmed from "Laggan and Stone", a novel written
by Ryan, but never published. The characters of Laggan Railway, unfortunately lay dormant for two years following this.
Fortunately, the idea for a revival of the characters in a series of stories was on the cards
when the Sodor Island Forums was in it's first year, and soon the Independent Works section was born, and inspiring many more
writers to follow the lead taken and write their own material, giving us such brilliant series such as Skarloey's "Cumbrian
Engines" and FlyingScotsman's "Scarlet and Friends". Here, you'll be able to read about their characters, their histories
and what is yet to come in the series!
